What is Church Boundary Training?

A healthy relationship between pastor and congregation doesn't happen by accident. It takes care, honest communication, and a shared commitment to doing ministry together.

The Pastoral Parish Relations Committee (PPRC) is one of the most important places where that care happens, and one of the most often misunderstood or overlooked.

  • Is your PPRC a sounding board for the pastor?
  • A channel for complaints? A personnel committee?
  • Something else entirely?

If your committee isn't sure, hasn't met in a while, or doesn't exist yet, this training is for you.

Drawing on A Sure Foundation, a resource from the United Church of Christ's MESA, we'll explore:

  • The purpose of a PPRC: what it is, and what it isn't Building trust,
  • confidentiality, and good communication
  • Supporting your pastor's well-being, growth, and boundaries
  • Navigating concerns and conflict in healthy ways
  • Practical next steps for starting or renewing your committee
  • Open to PPRC members, pastors, church moderators, and lay leaders who want to strengthen the partnership between pastor and congregation. Churches are encouraged to send their pastor along with two or more committee members so you can learn and plan together.
